Types of Credit Cards
With the growing popularity of credit cards, a huge number of financial institutions have come up with their customized credit cards. The features of the credit cards are designed as per the requirements of the customers.

The credit cards have become an important part of the financial life of modern society. Consumers can choose from the wide variety of credit cards available in the market. Credit cards provide easy access to a number of services. At the same time, the cardholders are also provided with instant cash (pre-decided limit) whenever they need the same. This money is then returned back to the financial institutions in easy installments. For all these services the card issuing companies charge a certain amount as their annual fee. The cardholders also pay a definite rate of interest for the borrowed amount.

The credit cards are designed according to the needs of the customers. Some of the widely used forms of credit cards are as follows:

  • Standard Credit Cards: The standard credit cards are the commonest version of credit cards available in the market. These cards are offered in different types like low interest credit cards, balance transfer credit cards and so on. The interest rates charged on these cards are quite affordable and these cards also help in reducing the credit card debts;
  • Specialty Credit Cards: These cards are offered for some specialized purposes like enabling the students to finance their educational expenditure. At the same time, there are some services that are meant for providing financial assistance to the business sector at affordable rates. Business credit cards and student credit cards are some of the specialized cards that are available in the market;
  • Credit Cards for Bad Credit: The credit card companies also offer their services to the customers with adverse credit history. These services are provided with some conditions. In spite of that, these credit cards are helpful for the customers. Secured debit card and prepaid credit card come under this category;
  • Credit Cards with Rewards Programs: This category includes services like cash back credit cards, airline miles credit cards and so on.

Most credit card companies offer several kinds of cards:

  • Secured cards, which require a security deposit. The larger the security deposit, the higher the credit limit. Secured cards are usually offered to people who have limited credit records - people who are just starting out or who have had trouble with credit in the past;
  • Regular cards, which do not require a security deposit and have just a few features. Most regular cards have higher credit limits than secured cards but lower credit limits than premium cards;
  • Premium cards (gold, platinum, titanium), which offer higher credit limits and usually have extra features - for example, product warranties, travel insurance, or emergency services.
