Former Sandy Creek High School standout, Calvin Johnson is now officially a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame after his induction on Sunday, August 8.聽A former three-year starter and almost State Player of the year in 2003, Johnson went on to Georgia Tech where he finished his college career, second in catches, first in touchdowns and yards. He would later be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
In his speech, Johnson made multiple mentions of his old hometown in his enshrinement speech, referring back to many in Tyrone who had an impact on his career.聽
鈥淚 want you to know that I know who you are, I know what you鈥檝e done, and I know how you鈥檝e impacted me,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 want to say thank you to each and every one of you.鈥

He specifically mentioned his former head coach at Sandy Creek, Rodney Walker, Johnson saying, 鈥淗e saw things in me that I didn鈥檛 see in myself,鈥 Johnson said. 鈥淗e spoke confidence into me and solidified my parents鈥 teachings by emphasizing the same principles.鈥
Johnson was selected second overall in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, where he played his nine-year career, retiring at 30 years old.
He ended his speech noting about his legacy.
